During the visit, Prime Minister Modi held extensive talks with President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta. The discussions covered a wide range of areas, including trade, human resource development, agriculture, food security and healthcare. As two major maritime nations in the Indo-Pacific, the leaders also placed special emphasis on strengthening cooperation in defence, security and the maritime domain. The visit resulted in 20 key outcomes, including…Extension of the Framework Agreement on Cooperation in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. MoUs on cooperation in Medical Products Regulation, Minerals and Steel Supply Chain Technology, Agriculture and Allied Sectors, Telecommunications Technologies and Services, and Research, Technology & Innovation. Cooperation on the BrahMos Missile System. Air-to-Air Missile Cooperation Agreement, among several other initiatives. Describing the visit as the beginning of a golden new chapter in India-Indonesia ties, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that the partnership would continue to scale new heights. In a significant gesture reflecting the warmth of bilateral ties, Prime Minister Modi was conferred Indonesia’s highest civilian honour—the Bintang Adipurna Medal of Honor—by President Prabowo Subianto. The Prime Minister dedicated the honour to the people of India and to the enduring friendship between India and Indonesia. Prime Minister Modi also delivered a historic address to the Parliament of Indonesia—the first-ever by an Indian Prime Minister. Highlighting the deep civilisational links and shared democratic values between the two nations, he called for a future-oriented partnership aligned with the aspirations of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Golden Indonesia 2045. What do these outcomes mean for the future of India-Indonesia relations? How will they strengthen cooperation across strategic, economic and people-to-people sectors? And what do they signal for the broader Indo-Pacific region?
