On the show today, we’ll discuss India’s intensifying heat crisis. Across large parts of the country, temperatures have crossed the 40 to 45 degree Celsius mark… making daily life increasingly difficult for lakhs of people. From north and central India to parts of Vidarbha and Rajasthan, scorching conditions continue to tighten their grip. On Sunday, the highest maximum temperature in the country was recorded at Brahmpuri in Vidarbha – a blistering 47.1 degrees Celsius. The Met Department has also issued warnings of severe heatwave conditions in several regions, raising concerns over public health, water stress, power demand, and the broader impact of extreme weather events. The big question at this point – Are these heat waves becoming India’s new normal? What is driving these extreme temperatures? How prepared are our cities, healthcare systems, and infrastructure to deal with prolonged heat stress? And most importantly, what precautions should people take as the mercury continues to rise?
