On the show today, we’re going to talk about the SEHAT Mission – launched by Union ministers JP Nadda and Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Delhi. A joint initiative by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, SEHAT stands for Science Excellence for Health through Agricultural Transformation. Linking agriculture and health, the national mission has been designed to translate agricultural advancements into tangible health outcomes for people. Union Health Minister JP Nadda described the ‘SEHAT Mission’ as a major transformation in India’s policy-making approach, where the government is no longer focusing only on treatment but also on prevention, early detection and continuous care. He said the mission will play a significant role in addressing both malnutrition and the rapidly rising burden of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and cancer. Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan termed SEHAT Mission as a strong framework for building a healthy India by integrating farming, nutrition and healthcare. He said the mission would focus on bio-fortified crops, nutrient-rich food products, integrated farming systems, health and safety measures for farmers, dietary solutions for lifestyle diseases and the ‘One Health’ approach. So, what exactly does this new mission aim to achieve? How will it create stronger coordination between agricultural and medical research systems? And how can it help improve nutrition and public health outcomes on the ground? To discuss the vision, the roadmap and the expected impact of the SEHAT Mission,
