Parliament, in its recently concluded Monsoon Session, passed the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025, paving the way for the establishment of one of the country’s premier institutions of higher learning at Guwahati in Assam.  Under the provisions of the Bill, the new IIM will receive a dedicated corpus of Rs 555 crore spread over five years, from 2025–26 to 2029–30.  Currently, there are 21 IIMs operational in India, nine of which have been established in the last decade alone.
