Perspective: One Nation, One Election | 06 April, 2026

Sansad Tv

In India, elections are not just a civic process — they are the celebration of democracy. From villages to megacities, every election reflects the voice, aspirations and diversity of the nation. Over the years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly advocated the idea of ‘One Nation, One Election’, which proposes holding Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections simultaneously. While addressing BJP workers on the party’s foundation day on Monday, the Prime Minister once again described this idea as one of the unfinished agendas and said serious and positive discussions are underway on the issue. The concept of One Nation, One Election does not necessarily mean voting will happen on a single day across the country. Elections can still be conducted in phases, as they are now, but Lok Sabha and Assembly elections would be held together instead of separately at different times. So, on the show today, we will try to understand the necessity of One Nation One Election, its advantages and disadvantages AND what it means for the country and for the voters.
