Perspective: Strengthening India-Brazil Ties | 17 October, 2025

Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin has concluded his visit to India, marking a new chapter in the India–Brazil strategic partnership. During his stay, he held wide-ranging discussions with Indian leaders to deepen cooperation in trade, Defence, agriculture, Energy and Technology. Both sides agreed to work towards achieving a 20 billion dollar bilateral trade target by 2030 and to expand the MERCOSUR–India Preferential Trade Agreement to open new opportunities for businesses and investors. The Brazilian Vice President‘s visit reaffirmed the growing partnership between two major democracies of the Global South, committed to strengthening economic, technological, and people-to-people ties. It’s worth noting that Prime Minister Modi’s State Visit to Brazil in July this year, following his participation in the BRICS Summit in Rio, was the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Brazil in nearly six decades—reflecting the importance both countries attach to this relationship. India and Brazil work together closely on several global and regional platforms—BRICS, IBSA, G20, G4, the International Solar Alliance, Global Biofuel Alliance among others. As both nations look ahead, the focus is on turning this renewed momentum into real outcomes across key sectors.
