Russian President Vladimir Putin began his two-day state visit to India on Thursday, 4th November, kicking off the trip with a private dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is President Putin’s first visit to India in four years. The last time he visited the country was in December 2021. Adding to the significance of the visit is that it marks the 25th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership between India and Russia, which was established in October 2000. And then it was in during the Russian President’s visit to India in December 2010 that the Strategic Partnership was elevated to a “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership”. On this two-day visit, the Russian President’s key engagements are scheduled for Friday, 5th December. As per the itinerary available, he will begin his day with a visit to Rajghat, paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi, which will be followed by a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Thereafter, the summit level talks between Prime Minister Modi and President Putin will take place at Hyderabad House in New Delhi where the two leaders will review the progress of India-Russia cooperation, decide the future direction of our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership, and also discuss important regional and global issues that matter to both nations.
