Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Japan from August 29th to 30th for the 15th India–Japan Annual Summit. He held delegation-level talks
with his Japanese counterpart, Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, where
the two leaders recalled the deep civilizational bonds, shared values,
and common strategic outlook that have long defined this partnership.
They unveiled a Joint Vision for the Next Decade – a roadmap built on
eight pillars, spanning economic partnership, mobility, technology,
health, ecology, and people-to-people ties.
The visit produced one of the most ambitious outcomes in recent years:
a Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation, new frameworks in digital
innovation, clean energy, critical minerals, and space exploration,
and, importantly, Japan’s commitment of 10 trillion yen in private
investment in India over the next decade—a powerful vote of confidence
in India’s growth story.
Equally significant, both sides announced an action plan for the
exchange of half a million people in five years, including 50,000
skilled Indian professionals moving to Japan – putting people at the
heart of this partnership.
