On the show today, we focus on the functioning and the performance of Parliament in the year 2025.As per details made available by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, 39 Bills were passed by both Houses of Parliament during the year gone by. Some landmark legislations enacted in 2025 include the Income-tax Bill, the National Sports Governance Bill, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, the Promotion & Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Bill, the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) – referred to as the VB – G RAM G Bill and so on…Beyond legislation, both Houses of Parliament also witnessed substantive and meaningful deliberations. Special discussions were held on Operation Sindoor, electoral reforms, and the 150th anniversary of the National Song, Vande Mataram – debates that connected contemporary policy with national history and democratic values.Importantly, nine Bills were referred to the joint, select, or standing committees during January to December 2025, underlining the role of committees in strengthening law-making.In this edition of Perspective, we reflect on some of these important enactments and the qualitative and meaningful discussions that took place in both Houses in the different sessions in 2025.
