Description:- India and the U.S. resumed trade talks this week, with a U.S. delegation visiting India to carry forward discussions on the trade deal. A team of officials, led by US Trade Representative for South Asia Brendan Lynch, visited India on 16th September. They held discussions with officials from the Department of Commerce, led by Special Secretary Rajesh Agarwal. Both sides termed the discussions as positive and forward looking, covering various aspects of the trade deal. It was decided to intensify efforts towards an early conclusion of a trade agreement between the two countries. This was the first in-person meeting between trade representatives of the two countries since the Trump administration imposed 50% tariffs on India. On the show today, we focus on how both sides are trying to overcome differences on trade issues. With Indian products facing 50% tariffs by the US, what kind of progress can we expect from the negotiations between both sides? Also, can talks on trade be delinked with other punitive measures by the Trump administration on India – such as revoking of sanctions exemptions for Chabahar port in Iran? To help us understand the road ahead from different perspectives.
