The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits are set to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 26th to 28th October 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually attend the 22nd ASEAN-INDIA SUMMIT on 26th October, where he and ASEAN leaders will review the progress in bilateral ties and chart new initiatives to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. On 27th October, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent India at the 20th EAST ASIA SUMMIT, which will deliberate on key challenges to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, and exchange views on regional and global developments. The ASEAN Summit will bring together all 10 ASEAN member states, along with major dialogue partners including China, Japan, and the United States, making it a significant platform for regional diplomacy. India’s partnership with ASEAN began in 1992 as a sectoral dialogue, was upgraded to a full dialogue partnership in 1995, and further elevated to the summit level in 2002. In 2012, it became a Strategic Partnership, underscoring the growing depth of political, economic, and cultural engagement. ASEAN remains central to India’s Act East Policy and its Indo-Pacific vision. The year 2022 marked 30 years of ASEAN-India relations, celebrated as the ASEAN-India Friendship Year, while 2024 marked a decade of India’s Act East Policy.
