India and Singapore have outlined a new roadmap to expand their comprehensive strategic partnership to the next level, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong underlining the importance of strengthening ties to navigate today’s complex geopolitical landscape. During a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi the Prime Minister of Singapore Mr. Wong in New Delhi on 4th September, discussions were held on a wide range of issues, including expanding cooperation in trade and investment, advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalization, healthcare and medicine, skilling, sustainability, defence and security as also people-to-people and cultural connections. Both Prime Ministers also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. At the joint press briefing, PM Modi said: India-Singapore relations go far beyond diplomacy. This is a partnership with purpose, rooted in shared values, guided by mutual interests and driven by a common vision for peace, progress and prosperity. On his part, the Prime Minister of Singapore said: In a world marked by uncertainty and turbulence, the partnership between India and Singapore becomes even more important. Prime Minister Modi and PM Wong also jointly inaugurated Phase-2 development of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT), developed in partnership with Singapore, at Navi Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port. BMCT is now India’s largest single container terminal and JNP the largest container port in the country. We’ll discuss in greater detail the roadmap for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and how it’s aimed at further enhancing the India-Singapore relations which mark its 60th anniversary this year.
