Russian President Vladimir Putin’s State Visit to India for the 23rd Annual Summit concluded on Friday with a comprehensive and forward-looking Joint Statement. From defence, energy and nuclear cooperation to trade, technology, critical minerals, connectivity and people-to-people linkages the Joint Statement spans the full spectrum of engagement. Importantly, both sides agreed to work towards balancing trade, joint development and manufacturing in defence, greater collaboration in science and innovation, and expanding connectivity corridors through the Eurasian region and the Arctic. A particularly strong element was the clear and unequivocal stance on terrorism. Both leaders condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations including the attacks in Pahalgam and Moscow and called for concerted action against UN-listed terrorist groups, emphasising zero tolerance, the dismantling of safe havens, and blocking financing and cross-border movement of terrorists. They also reiterated the need for the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism to be adopted at the UN. On the global stage too, the two countries underscored shared positions at the UN, G20, BRICS and SCO, reiterating support for a multipolar and rules-based world order.
