Perspective: India’s First Digital Census | 06 March, 2026

Sansad Tv

On the show today, we’re going to talk about the 2027 census. India has moved a step closer towards conducting its first fully digital census. Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah soft-launched four digital tools that will be used to conduct the census on 5th March. He also formally unveiled the mascots – Pragati and Vikas for Census-2027. The female and male mascots symbolize the equal participation of women and men in fulfilling the resolve to make India a developed nation by 2047. Through these mascots, information, objectives, and key messages related to Census 2027 will be disseminated in an effective and citizen-friendly manner across diverse sections of society. The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) has developed these advanced digital platforms to facilitate enumeration operations across the country. We’ll try to understand more about these tools which will be used for the first time to conduct a census in India – which is also going to be the world’s largest census exercise.
