Perspective: Green Budget 2026-27 | 05 March, 2026

Sansad Tv

The second part of the Budget Session of Parliament will begin on the 9th of March and continue till the 2nd of April. Both Houses will reconvene after nearly a month-long recess – during which the Parliamentary Standing Committees closely examine the Demands for Grants of various Ministries and Departments. In the coming days, Parliament will take up discussion and voting on the Demands for Grants for the financial year 2026–27, along with the government’s broader legislative agenda. Today in Perspective, we shift focus to the allocation for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, which has been pegged at ₹3,759 crore for FY 2026–27 – which is about 7 percent higher than last year’s revised estimates. The emphasis is on strengthening the implementation of ongoing missions, while also advancing nature-based solutions as part of India’s climate and development strategy. There is a clear push toward environmental financing for decarbonisation and climate resilience, alongside enhanced allocations for programmes such as the National Clean Air Programme, greater support for wildlife conservation, and new initiatives that promote nature-based tourism. So the question that we explore is: How effectively does this budget balance environmental protection, climate adaptation and sustainable livelihoods? And how will this allocation translate into meaningful impact on the ground?.
