Sansad TV
In this episode of the Perspective Prog. based on ‘UNSC Committee Report on Terror Groups’. Pakistan-based terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, maintain their training camps in Afghanistan and some of them are directly under the Taliban control, according to a new UN report. The 13th report of the Sanctions Monitoring Team under the Taliban Sanctions Committee says that JeM maintains eight training camps in Nangarhar, three of which are directly under Taliban control, while the LeT maintains 3 such camps in Kunar and Nangarhar. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), blamed for a string of attacks in northwest Pakistan in recent months, accounts for the largest component of foreign terrorist fighters in Afghanistan, with their number estimated at “several thousand”, as per the report, which is the first by the monitoring team since the Taliban takeover of Kabul in August last year. Despite the Taliban leadership’s claims of not allowing Afghan soil to be used by foreign fighters, the UN report says several other foreign terrorist groups were still active in Afghanistan. There is an approximate presence of “180 to 400 fighters affiliated with Al Qaeda” from “Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Pakistan” settled in various provinces of Afghanistan. How concerning is the report for India? Afghanistan once again being used as a breeding ground for terrorism – how threatening is it for the peace & security in India and the region?
