In this episode of the Perspective Prog. Based on ‘FIFA Suspends AIFF’. In what comes as a massive setback for the country, World football governing body FIFA has suspended the All India Football Federation, for undue influence from third parties. The suspension means India will not be able to host the U-17 Women’s World Cup, which was scheduled to be held from October 11-30. This is the first time the All India Football Federation has been banned by FIFA in its 85-year history, with the apex body saying there have been “flagrant violations of the FIFA Statutes”. The letter from FIFA says the suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs. In Perspective today we’ll try and understand from experts what the consequences of this ban could be for Indian football and what measures need to be taken for this ban to be revoked.
