In this episode of the Perspective Prog. based on Farm Protest & Assembly Results. There were a lot of speculations about the recently concluded Assembly Elections in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh regarding the impact of year-long farmers’ protest against the three farm laws which were later repealed in December last year. Established political parties like Congress and SAD in Punjab played the farm laws card to win over the state, though the voters gave a thumping mandate to AAP. Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal-led SSM also could not win any seat in Punjab. In the 136 seats of western Uttar Pradesh, the BJP managed to win 93 seats while the SP – RLD alliance could manage only 43. RLD which claimed extensive influence in these areas won just 8 out of the 33 seats it contested in these elections.
