India and Japan today held the 16th India–Japan Annual Summit in New Delhi, reaffirming their Special Strategic and Global Partnership. During the talks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly referred to Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi as his “younger sister.” The two leaders also oversaw the signing of key MoUs to strengthen cooperation in the economy, energy, investment and other strategic sectors. Prime Minister Modi outlined an ambitious roadmap for the next decade, aiming to attract 10 trillion yen in Japanese investment and double the number of Japanese companies in India. The Japanese Prime Minister also said that both countries must leverage their complementary strengths to build a stronger and more prosperous future amid growing global uncertainty. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi welcomed his Japanese counterpart with a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Her first official visit to India reflects the shared commitment of both nations to further deepen their Special Strategic and Global Partnership. So, on the programme today, we will examine the key outcomes of the summit, its strategic significance, and what makes the India–Japan partnership truly special.
