Over the last decade, India’s tourism landscape has undergone a significant transformation. Improved connectivity, world-class infrastructure, digital initiatives, destination-focused development and heritage conservation have together expanded the country’s tourism footprint. From spiritual circuits and heritage cities to eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and lesser-known destinations, tourism is increasingly becoming a catalyst for inclusive development. As India moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, tourism is expected to play an even greater role in creating livelihoods, empowering local communities, preserving cultural heritage, and positioning India as one of the world’s leading tourism destinations. So, on the programme today, we will examine, what has changed over the past decade? What is driving this transformation? And what more needs to be done to unlock India’s enormous tourism potential?
