The Ministry of Textiles recently concluded the two-day Textiles Summit 2026 under the theme ‘Textiles for Global Markets’ in New Delhi, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and academia to discuss the future of India’s textile sector. The summit focused on sustainability, exports, value addition, innovation, and global market expansion, while reiterating the ambitious goal of achieving 100 billion dollars in textile exports by 2030. India today is among the world’s largest textile producers, consumers, and exporters. The sector is a key driver of economic growth and employment, contributing over 2 percent to GDP, nearly 10 percent to industrial output, and 8.63 percent to India’s exports. So, in today’s programme, we will discuss India’s textile growth story, the key outcomes of the Textiles Summit 2026, and how the sector can help India move up the value chain and strengthen its position in global markets.
