Thursday marks 11 years since the launch of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban, the Government of India’s flagship Housing for All mission, initiated on 25 June 2015. Over the last decade-plus, PMAY-Urban has aimed to bridge India’s urban housing gap for the Economically Weaker Sections, Low and Middle Income groups and has worked through four pillars: In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) using land as a resource. Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP)with public and private players. Beneficiary-led house construction(BLC) and enhancement with direct assistance to families. And the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) for interest subvention on housing loans, which concluded in March 2022. The mission period was originally up to March 2022 and extended to December 2025 to complete all sanctioned houses without changing the funding pattern. So where does the mission stand today…Have all the sanctioned houses been completed and handed over to the allottees or is there some work still to be completed.
