Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in the United Kingdom on July 23rd and 24th, at the invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. This marks the PM’s fourth visit to the UK – and one that comes at a pivotal moment in India-UK ties. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders will engage in wide-ranging discussions covering the full spectrum of the bilateral relationship – from trade and investment to defence, technology, climate action, and people-to-people ties. They’re also expected to exchange views on key regional and global developments. Prime Minister Modi is also likely to call on King Charles III during the visit. But at the heart of this high-level engagement is the expected signing of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement — negotiations for which were concluded earlier this year in May. So, what does this much-anticipated FTA entail? What are the gains and give-and-take for both countries? And how will this visit shape the next chapter of our partnership with the UK?
