In this episode of the Perspective Prog. Based on ‘National Tourism Policy’. The government will bring in the new National Tourism Policy before the Budget Session of Parliament. Union Tourism and Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy made the announcement on Sunday while addressing the National Conference of State Tourism Ministers on Sunday. He said after vast consultations and deliberations with stakeholders, the policy is at the concluding stage and will soon be placed before the Union Cabinet. The policy aims to bring about some much-needed reforms in the tourism and hospitality sector, which is one of the largest service industries in India. As per data cited by the Tourism minister, the tourism sector generated Rs 16.91 lakh crore or 9.2% of India’s GDP in 2018 and has supported around 42.67 million jobs or 8.1% of the total employment in the country. For India to achieve the goal of becoming a $5 trillion economy and a developed nation, the tourism sector has a huge role and potential, to harness which the Tourism policy has laid down various objectives. In ‘Perspective’ today, we look at the key features and significant objectives of the National Tourism Policy.
