In this episode of the Perspective Prog. Based on ‘Israel Elections: Netanyahu Returns’. Israel’s former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is on the brink of a dramatic comeback, after partial election results showed he was on course to win a majority in parliament with the far right’s help. With 93.6% of votes counted, Mr Netanyahu’s bloc is set to win 65 out of 120 seats. Following the year-long experiment of a mixed right-center-left-Arab coalition, the results of elections held on 1st November mark a decided shift to the right in Israeli politics. According to the partial results, Netanyahu’s Likud stands to be the biggest party with 32 seats commanding a majority with the support of nationalist and religious parties. Yesh Atid of outgoing Prime Minister Yair Lapid which led the coalition which brought down Mr Netanyahu in elections last year is projected to win 24 seats.
