External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday held wide-ranging talks with his South Korean counterpart Park Jin to take forward the special strategic partnership between the two countries, especially in areas of trade and defence. The two foreign ministers also deliberated on the Ukraine conflict and the overall situation in the Indo-Pacific, a region that has witnessed growing Chinese military assertiveness. During his two-day visit to India Park Jin also called on Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and discussed the importance of cultural and people-to-people ties in strengthening India-South Korea Special Strategic Partnership.
India-Republic of Korea (RoK) relations have made great strides in recent years spurred by a significant convergence of interests, mutual goodwill and high-level exchanges. Trade and economic relations between India and Republic of Korea have gathered momentum in recent years with annual bilateral trade reaching 23.7 billion US Dollars in 2021 as per data from Korea International Trade Association.
Defence relations have also expanded in recent years with Defence Industries Cooperation being the mainstay of Strategic Cooperation between both countries.
