Celebrating their tireless efforts and contributions in empowering people and ensuring that we have a good life, the government of India celebrates 21st of April every year as National Civil Services Day.
It was on this day back in 1947 that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of Independent India, addressed the probationary officers of Administrative Services at Metcalf House in Delhi. In an inspiring speech, Sardar Patel referred to the civil servants as ‘the steel frame of India,’ thereby serving as a reminder to reflect on their services and reaffirm their commitment to serving citizens.
In this edition of Perspective, we talk about the significance of the Civil Services Day, the transformational role being played by civil servants in propelling India to the status of a developed nation, how they’re enhancing their work efficiency to achieve the desired goal and how innovation and technology are transforming strengthening governance at various levels.
