Perspective: 'Ban of International Students at Harvard' | 29 May, 2025

Sansad Tv

On the show today, we’re going to talk about an unexpected decision by the Trump administration that’s making waves around the world – and especially here in India. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has decided to stop Harvard University from enrolling foreign students. Which means, the university, which has a significant reputation worldwide, can no longer take in international students, at least for now. This move directly affects thousands of students, including many from India. Because every year, thousands of young Indians go to the U.S. to study, with dreams of building a better future, and Harvard is often seen as the means to achieve that dream. But this sudden decision to ban enrolment of foreign students has left them and their families in shock. So why did this happen? What happens to the Indian students already studying there – or those who were just about to go? What will they do now? And what does this mean for the long-standing education ties between India and the U.S.?
