China stands firmly against all forms of hegemonism and power politics, said President Xi Jinping at the opening session of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The most important event in China’s political calendar, the once-in-a-five-year congress convened on 16th October and will go on till the 22nd. Around 2,300 delegates from across China have gathered at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People for the week-long event to appoint the CCP’s top leadership and approve the country’s roadmap for the next five years. President Xi, who is the party’s general secretary, and also the chairman of the CCP Central Military Commission, delivered a wide-ranging speech – talking about security, modernization of the military, Covid-19, unilateralism, and Taiwan. Each of these significant aspects, China’s policy directions on its domestic as well as international issues, what they mean for the region and the world.
