Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 16th BRICS Summit, held under Russia’s Chairship, in Kazan.
At the Summit, the BRICS leaders had productive discussions on strengthening multilateralism, countering terrorism, fostering economic growth, pursuing sustainable development and bringing spotlight on the concerns of the Global South.The leaders also welcomed the 13 new BRICS partner countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed two sessions of the BRICS Summit.He spoke about the world undergoing several uncertainties and challenges including conflicts, adverse climatic impacts, and cyber threats, which he said has placed greater expectations upon BRICS.For this, the Prime Minister suggested that the group take a people-centric approach to tackle these challenges. Also, on the sidelines of the Summit, the Prime Minister also held bilateral meetings with various leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping. This was their first structured bilateral meeting at a delegation level in nearly five years, the last one being on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Brasilia in 2019.
