On the show today, we focus on the extraordinary transformation in India’s defence sector. A little over a decade ago, our defence manufacturing was limited in scope, heavily reliant on imports, and lacked the scale to match its strategic ambitions. But today, we’re looking at a transformed landscape – confident, self-reliant, and innovation-driven. With a defence budget that has more than doubled – rising from ₹2.53b lakh crore in 2013–14 to Rs 6.81 lakh crore in 2025–26 – India’s vision is clear: To build a strong and secure military backed by indigenous might. The numbers clearly tell the story of this intention and transformation. India recorded its highest ever defence production at Rs 1.27 lakh crore in 2023–24 – a staggering 174% jump since 2014–15. Defence exports: They’ve skyrocketed from just Rs 686 crore to over Rs 23,000 crore in a little over a decade. From two Defence Industrial Corridors to 5,500 indigenisation-focused items, from innovation-driven contracts to a thriving private sector contribution – this is nothing short of a mission. And now, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh setting an ambitious target of Rs 3 lakh crore in defence production by 2029, India has its eyes firmly set on the future. So on the show today, we’ll discuss the impact and the transformation in the defence sector in the past decade and the road ahead for a nation determined to be Atmanirbhar in every sense.
