India mourns the victims of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday, June 12th – one of the worst air disasters in recent times. Devastated by the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site on Friday. Expressing solidarity with the affected families, he met those injured in the aftermath, including the lone survivor, and assured them of the nation’s unwavering support during this difficult time. PM also chaired a review meeting at Ahmedabad Airport with top authorities to assess the ongoing relief and recovery efforts. The PM also met the family of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was one of the victims of the fatal air crash. He paid a tribute to the late leader and expressed solidarity with his family and friends in this hour of grief. Both the central government and the government of Gujarat are jointly carrying out relief efforts. DNA sampling process of relatives of the deceased is being done. The official number of the deceased will be declared only after the completion of DNA testing. Meanwhile, investigations into the cause of the crash have also begun. The black box has been recovered. The Civil Aviation Minister announced that a formal investigation has been initiated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, in line with international protocols set by the International Civil Aviation Organization. Additionally, the Government has constituted a high-level committee comprising experts from multiple disciplines to examine the matter in detail. This multidisciplinary committee will work to strengthen aviation safety and prevent such incidents in future. As we express grief and mourn the loss of lives in the tragic plane crash, it’s also time to analyse and think of ways to strengthen aviation safety in the country to prevent such accidents in future.
