Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Global Millets Conference in New Delhi terming it as a symbol of India’s responsibilities towards the global good. PM Modi also said that Millets are becoming a medium of holistic development in India and India’s Millet Mission will prove to be a boon for 2.5 crore millet producing farmers of the country. Prime Minister also declared the Indian Institute of Millets Research of ICAR as a Global Centre of Excellence. As proposed by India, 2023 has been declared 2023 as International Year of Millets by United Nations General Assembly. India is exporting millets to 139 countries across the globe. Indian government has also been promoting Millet production as part of its National Food Security Mission.
