She beat her rival, former finance minister Rishi Sunak, by 81,326 votes to 60,399, after weeks of an internal leadership contest sparked by Boris Johnson’s resignation in July. Truss is set to become the country’s fourth leader in six years and only the third female Prime Minister of the country following Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher. Soon after the results were announced, Truss vowed to deliver a bold plan to cut taxes and grow the country’s economy. What are the economic challenges she’s up for? What are the factors that helped her win? How hopeful are the people of Britain now of Lizz Truss fixing the enormous crises the country is reeling under?
