Republican leader Kevin McCarthy is locked in a fight for his political future, attempting to win the votes that he needs to become Speaker of the US House of Representatives. A group of 20 members of his own party have torpedoed McCarthy’s Speakership bid. Despite endless talks and signs of concessions, the impasse continues – bringing to a standstill all functions of the chamber. For how long will this deadlock continue? What will be the implications for the Grand Old Party? How does it impact the functioning of the US government?. Pressure mounting, will Kevin McCarthy withdraw?
