In this episode of the Perspective Prog. based on ‘Assembly Elections : Issues & Challenges’. Election Commission of India has recently announced the schedule for assembly polls in five states. A little over a fifth of India’s population will vote between February 10 and March 7 in 690 assembly constituencies spread across five states- Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and the most populous and politically significant Uttar Pradesh. While voting in UP will take place in seven phases starting from 10th, voters in Manipur will cast their vote in two phases on 27th February and 3rd March and Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa elections will be held in single phase on 14th February. Counting of votes for all five states will take place on 10th March. In today’s episode of Perspective we will discuss and analyse key issues during these assembly polls and the electoral strategies of political parties.
