India is the only developing nation to have indigenously developed, demonstrated and deployed nuclear reactors for electricity generation. This was made possible through several decades of extensive scientific research and technology development. There are presently twenty two reactors in operation and eleven reactors are under construction / commissioning at various stages After entering into International Civil Nuclear Cooperation agreement in 2008, India was bestowed with opportunity of setting up nuclear reactors with international cooperation. The parliamentary Committee believes that merely having physical infrastructure in place alone would not yield the desired results and it is, of the utmost importance and great significance that these facilities are equipped with qualified and trained human resource as well.
