The Indian constitution and international law have links dating back to the pre-independence era when India was a separate member of the league of nations even during the times of British rule. The Parliamentary Committee recognises the critical importance of safeguarding the Country’s interests in the varied streams of International Law and notes with satisfaction that India is committed to multilateralism and enhancement of respect for International Law. The Committee, however, finds that India’s capacity, expertise and involvement in the framing and further modification of International Law in various spheres needs to be further strengthened.
