Just fifty years into its existence, IIT-Bombay is among the best-known institutions of technical education worldwide. Monastery, Sanctuary, Laboratory traces IIT-Bombay’s conception and its evolution over its first five decades, as related by one of its own faculty. Capturing the Institute’s moments of glory while concurrently examining its shortfalls, the book also embeds it in the larger canvas of India’s science and technology enterprise. Written in the style of a narrative history, it has a wealth of arresting, intriguing and little known facts a product of careful research accompanied by evocative sketches and period photographs. While being an authoritative history, Monastery, Sanctuary, Laboratory is presented with considerable drama and delightful wit by an accomplished author, Rohit Manchanda, who has won a Betty Trask Award for his fiction and is currently a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at IIT-Bombay.
Likhawat is a show about the books of Bharat. With authors that write about the different ways in which they view Bharat and her various moods and identities, cultures and idiosyncrasies as it was written and imagined by them.
Dr Gautam Choubey, the anchor is a an academic, translator and a writer who currently teaches English literature at delhi University.
