Geet Chaturvedi (born 27 November 1977) is one of contemporary Hindi literature’s most innovative voices. Hailing from Mumbai and now based in Bhopal, he wears many hats—as a poet, short-story writer, lyricist, screenwriter, novelist, journalist, and translator. His career, spanning from the mid-1990s to the present, firmly places him within the postmodern, avant-garde movement in Hindi letters
Over the last two decades, Chaturvedi has authored eleven books across genres. In poetry, his landmark collections include Aalaap mein girah (2010), Nyoonatam Main (2017)—which featured on bestseller lists—and Khushiyon Ke Guptchar (2019). In fiction, he burst onto the scene in 2010 with two linked novella volumes: Savant Anti Ki Ladkiyan and Pink Slip Daddy, the latter earning the Krishna Pratap Katha Samman for its taut, poetic language. His novella “Simsim,” translated into English by Anita Gopalan, won a PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant in 2016.
Equally distinguished as a translator, Chaturvedi has brought into Hindi some of the world’s greatest poets—Pablo Neruda, Federico García Lorca, Adonis, Mahmoud Darwish, Adam Zagajewski, and others. His own poems have been translated into twenty-two languages and published internationally in venues such as AGNI, World Literature Today, and Chicago Review. His many honors include the Bharat Bhushan Award for Poetry (2007), the Syed Haider Raza Fellowship (2019), and being named one of “Ten Best Writers” by The Indian Express in 2011.
Geet Chaturvedi is very much liked by today’s young generation. He has a deep interest in cinema, music and world poetry and he has translated the poems of Lorca, Neruda, Yanis Ritsos, Adam Zagayevsky, Adonis, Turkish young poet Akgun Akova and Iraqi poet Dunya Mikhail etc. Apart from these, he has also done many translations from Marathi to Hindi.
