Perspective: Election Promises | 15 February, 2022

In this episode of the Perspective Prog. based on ‘Election Promises’. The election manifesto contains the declared ideology of a political Party and its policies and programmes for the Country or State and people at large and therefore serves as a reference document for the public. Every political party comes up with its manifesto before each election and this practice has witnessed various changes and innovations over a period of time. In the ongoing assembly elections three out of four political parties in Uttar Pradesh- BJP, Congress and Samajwadi Party have come up with their respective manifestos focussing on various sections of voters – Farmers, women, Youth and poor. Several promises have been made which include payments to sugarcane farmers in 14 days, free scooty for girls students after 12th class, free electricity for farmers, pension for widows, jobs for youth and 33 percent reservation for women in govt jobs. In Punjab also three major political players have released their manifesto. While BJP and its allies have focussed on employment education, mafia and drugs, Aam Aadmi Party has promised 300 units of free electricity and a monthly stipend for women and SAD BSP alliance has promised pension for elderly, 5 Lakh houses for poor and new schools and universities.
