We’re talking today about India-Myanmar relations and the significance of the ongoing visit of Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing (Oo Min Ong Lang) to India. Accompanied by a high-level delegation, the President of Myanmar is on a five-day official visit to India from 30th May to 3rd June. On Monday, the President of Myanmar held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The two leaders held wide-ranging discussions covering the entire spectrum of India-Myanmar relations and explored ways to further strengthen this important partnership. During the talks, Prime Minister Modi reiterated that India remains Myanmar’s trusted neighbour, reliable partner and steadfast first responder in times of crisis, in line with India’s Neighbourhood First, Act East and MAHASAGAR policies. He also reaffirmed India’s readiness to support peace and dialogue in Myanmar. This visit assumes particular significance as India is the first country President Min Aung Hlaing is visiting after assuming office.To understand the importance of this visit, the key outcomes of the bilateral discussions, and what they indicate for the future trajectory of India-Myanmar ties.
