Lower GST rates took effect from Monday, with a host of household items – cars, bikes, ACs, TVs, and multiple other appliances becoming cheaper. The impact was immediate – long queues at car dealerships, surge in sales of air-conditioners and TV sets and substantial increase in traffic and sales even on online platforms. Buyers rushed to grab cheaper deals offered by retailers at the beginning of the Navratra festival. Carmakers including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, and Tata Motors reported record-breaking single-day sales -Maruti Suzuki led the momentum with nearly 30,000 car deliveries and around 80,000 customer enquiries on the first day, marking its strongest single-day performance in over three decades. Hyundai followed with close to 11,000 dealer billings, the company’s best single-day tally in five years. Tata Motors also recorded a historic 10,000 deliveries and more than 25,000 enquiries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote an open letter to the citizens, saying they must celebrate the “GST Bachat Utsav” this festive season. He said lower GST rates will bring more savings to every household and ensure greater ease of doing business. He said the GST reforms have brought a positive change across the country. The restructured GST regime will boost savings and directly benefit all sections of the society, including farmers, traders, and Micro, Small & Medium enterprises (MSMEs). The Prime Minister said the latest GST norms will encourage higher growth and more investments, accelerating the progress of every State and region.
