Debates and discussions in the Houses of Legislature – building people’s trust, meeting people’s aspirations. That’s the theme of the 11th Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region, inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on 11th September in Bengaluru. This three-day conference brings together Presiding Officers — Speakers and Chairpersons — from the legislatures of States and Union Territories, along with delegates from foreign Parliaments, including the Chairperson and Secretary General of the CPA. The conference reaffirms the core purpose of legislatures as vibrant platforms for dialogue, accountability, and nation-building. Today, we’ll discuss the key deliberations and insights emerging from the CPA Conference — on how democratic institutions can be further strengthened to truly reflect the hopes and aspirations of our citizens.
