Former Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Harinder Sidhu was born in Singapore to Indian-origin parents.Both sides of her family are from Punjab and her parents settled in Australia when she was ten years old. Her father was born in Punjab and her mother was born to a Malaysian Sikh family. Sidhu was appointed Australia’s High Commissioner to India in February 2016 and during her four year stint Sidhu remained at the centre of the transformation of India-Australia ties. Sidhu is now serving as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia
