32 year old Captain Harpreet Chandi, Indian-origin British Sikh Army officer and physiotherapist scripted history by completing a solo unsupported trek to the South Pole. Captain Chandi is the first woman of colour to complete a solo crossing on the continent and the third fastest female solo skier for this expedition. Also known as Polar Preet, Captain Chandi announced her history-making feat at the end of Day 40 after traveling over 1100 kilometers while pulling a sledge with all of her kit and battling temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celsius and wind speeds of around 60mph. Chandi says she is proud to be a woman of colour and glad that she embarked on this mission. She added that it took a long time for her to embrace her roots and admire her skin colour and the culture she belongs to.
