Padma Shri awardee Tripti Mukherjee is one of India’s most respected Kantha embroidery artists and a leading force behind the preservation of West Bengal’s traditional textile heritage.
In this exclusive conversation, she shares her remarkable journey of learning Kantha embroidery from her mother, beginning the craft at the age of six, and dedicating more than 37 years to preserving this timeless art form. Through her training centre in Bengal, she has empowered thousands of rural women with skills, livelihood opportunities and financial independence. Her work has carried the beauty of Indian handicrafts from village workshops to prestigious international platforms, including the India Trend Fair in Tokyo, Japan.
