Padma Shri 2026 awardee Raghuveer Tukaram Khedkar is one of the most celebrated names in Maharashtra’s folk theatre tradition and is widely revered as the “Tamasha Samrat.”
Beginning his journey on stage at the age of nine, Raghuveer Khedkar dedicated more than five decades to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Tamasha. Inspired and trained by his mother, a renowned Tamasha artist, he went on to perform in over 12,000 shows, becoming one of the foremost torchbearers of this iconic folk art form. A master Songadya, performer, mentor, and cultural icon, Raghuveer Khedkar has devoted his life to ensuring that Maharashtra’s folk traditions continue to thrive in modern times.
