The Right To Information Act, 2005 empowers citizens to seek truth and ensure transparency in governance. It promotes accountability, good governance, and public participation.
At the same time, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 protects citizens’ right to privacy in the digital world, ensuring that personal data is collected and used responsibly.
The key challenge today is balancing transparency with privacy safeguarding individual dignity while maintaining open governance. Section 8(1)(J) of the RTI Act restricts disclosure of private information unless it serves a larger public interest, while the DPDP Act makes consent central to data protection.
In a digital democracy, both RTI and Privacy are complementary rights one ensures access to truth, the other preserves personal freedom and dignity. Together, they define the foundation of an informed and responsible citizenry.
Sansad Television is the Parliamentary channel of India. It was created in 2021 by merging Lok Sabha Television and Rajya Sabha Television.
