The growing cases of Cancer in India are a serious concern, as it leads to not only high numbers of premature deaths but also impacts the quality of life. Cancer can affect any part of the human body, though in India, the highest number of lives lost is due to oral cancer caused by tobacco followed by cancer of the lungs, oesophagus and stomach. Among women, breast cancer and cervical cancer is most common. In order to address this serious issue, the Committee decided to examine the government‘s strategy on various interventions ranging from early screening and detection to facilitating affordable and comprehensive management and care of cancer patients.
